Hello! Another week, another Weekly Recall, this time from the Overwatch Comms team (made up of Community, PR, and Social—hi!)
This is an incredibly busy and exciting time behind the scenes on Overwatch 2 right now: we just hit Season 18 content lock on what the launch build will contain, with polish and QA now in full force, and this past week we filmed the next Dev Update video (it’s a doozy!). Plus, development for future Seasons is always ongoing. For all of these reasons and more, we decided to give the devs a bit of break from working on another blog with us.
For us on the Comms team, we’d love to take this respite from the normal Weekly Recall cadence to talk about what we are trying to do in tandem with this brilliant development team. Over the last couple years, we’ve been working to improve overall communication between you and the devs, while navigating the tricky line between what is ready to be talked about and what is not. And we want each different beat (or way to share what is going on) to serve a unique purpose. For example:
- Director’s Take – Aaron, Alec, or another Director on the team talks to you about how they are approaching different aspects of the game. Includes more vision and philosophy, with occasional random thoughts or topics thrown in;
- Dev Update Video – Shows some of the really cool things we are excited to share with you ahead of each Season;
- Dev Livestream – Gives an in-depth look at the what/how/why of designing various aspects of Overwatch 2;
- Weekly Recall – From the Dev team, focuses on whatever key topic seems most interesting, relevant, or important to you that week. We are trying to balance these across the entire Overwatch 2 development team, so there will typically be a clear difference in topic week to week, such as Map Reworks one week and then Stadium balance the next.
We’re really proud of all of these avenues of communication, but we know we can always do better! Your feedback on how we’re sharing all this info on the game has been invaluable.
With the Weekly Recalls and Livestreams being our two newest series, we have to ask: what are the things you all want to see covered in the future?
