Story
Wuyang Ye has always dreamed of carrying on his family's legacy at the Wuxing University Fire College. But when he’s accepted into the Water College instead, he faces an uphill battle to discover his personal strengths and prove them – to his family, and to himself.
Wuyang grew up seeking to uphold his family’s legacy with the prestigious Wuxing University Fire College. Striving to meet their standards, he and his older sister, Anran, trained daily in various forms of kung fu, hoping to follow in the footsteps of their parents. But while Anran was easily accepted as a top student, Wuyang's best efforts were not enough to make the Fire College’s admittance cut off. Instead, he was accepted to the school’s Water College: a program that taught traditional Chinese healing methods and philosophies and how to apply them to the modern world. Unable to pursue the same field of study as his family, Wuyang was left questioning how to navigate the road ahead.
During Wuyang’s first year in the Water College, he was surprised to find how much he enjoyed his studies. Learning about qi gong came naturally to him, and he found his classes mentally fulfilling, even if not as intense as the action-packed training of the Fire College. But in the back of his mind, it nagged at him that he was the black sheep of the family. He wanted to give his parents a reason to be proud of him despite his initial setbacks. Determined to find a way to marry his studies with his childhood training, he hatched a plan.
Wuyang asked his best friend from the Metal College, Ming, to adapt one of his prototype staves into a tool that would let him manipulate the trajectory of water. With Ming’s creation in hand, he began studying Fire College techniques in addition to his normal schoolwork, coming up with innovative fighting combinations from the teachings of both the Fire and Water schools.
One night while Wuyang was studying, Null Sector suddenly launched an attack on Chengdu. With official forces on the way, the University's students were deployed to help evacuate citizens. After a heated argument with Anran, he reluctantly stayed behind to help injured civilians while she headed onto the battlefield with her classmates.
But it wasn’t long before the tide of battle turned against them. Anran's unit had been ambushed by a Null Sector—and she'd stayed behind to buy the others time to escape. Fearing for his sister’s life, Wuyang rushed into the city to her aid, finding her completely surrounded by warbots. Using his own Water-based combat techniques, Wuyang completely wiped out the Null Sector units, saving his sister. Together, Anran and Wuyang fought their way back out of the city.
Their heroic efforts were recognized by all, including the headmaster of the school—and more importantly, his parents. However, they were not the only ones who had taken notice of Wuyang’s feat. Some weeks later, he discovered a small medallion slipped under his dorm room door— one containing an invitation to join the newly reunited Overwatch. With renewed confidence and his sister’s encouragement, he prepared to join forces with them in his journey ahead.
Wuyang and Anran were making their journey to Watchpoint: Gibraltar for the first time when Talon launched their assault. The siblings dove into the fight, helping Overwatch deal with the sudden attack—proof that they’re ready to help in the many battles ahead.
